The Visiting Group was formed in 2002. It seeks to support patients undergoing treatment or returning for consultation in the hospital, with the aim to encourage and support newly diagnosed children patients and their family members so as to motivate them in their fight against cancer.
If the parents of newly diagnosed patients would like to be visited, the Visiting Group will arrange an individual visit for them by inviting survivors with the same diagnosis and their parents to meet them in the hospital. Through the process of experience sharing, newly diagnosed patients and their family members’ anxiety can be relieved.
The Visiting Group is mainly formed by survivors and their parents and they have all had basic training on communication skills. They have also had to attend the infection control course. Weekly ward visit every Wednesday have taken place from February 2009.
